Intel Cisco Portal

Challenge

Because the design and layout of the portal site will follow the GigabitSolution.com web site design very closely, a few navigation challenges are introduced. First, the GigabitSolution.com web site and its existing navigation support this web site as a standalone site. We are now making it an arm (or section) of a larger, over-arching portal site. Second, what appears as primary navigation in the portal site will not directly translate to navigation on GigabitSolution.com, as GigabitSolution’s primary navigation is contextual to itself as a standalone site. Hence, the following recommendations exist to address these issues:

The portal site should contain the following primary navigation sections in Phase 1:

  1. Home
  2. Overview
  3. GigabitSolution.com (link to existing site)
  4. Wireless
  5. Verticals

The navigation links should be persistent across not only the home page, Overview, Wireless and Verticals sections, but on the GigabitSolution.com site as well. Location and graphical treatment should be consistent on these new pages as on GigabitSolution.com for consistency.

Solution

The solution was the creation of separate portals that were linked together as a network of subjects. Each portal provided news, documentation and samples about the subject it was focused upon.

Results

The client's were happy with the progress we made and looked forward to expanding the system for each subject area.

Robert's Thoughts

This project was rather easy to accomplish the only challenge was getting the two representative groups from both companies to agree on design considerations and layout.
